Smoke was inspired after watching the film Sinners and the character Smoke, played by Michael B. Jordan. The piece is rooted in a moment near the end of the film when Smoke finally finds peace after a life that seemed to deny him that possibility. That shift stayed with me—because for most of the story, peace felt unreachable for him, almost like something he was never meant to have. And then, in the final moments, it arrives anyway. This work holds that transition—the weight of struggle, and the quiet release of finally letting it go.
